to the Baltic Sea



You are transported from the tropics to the much cooler North. In the mountain pool swim a shoal of char.

You can study minature worlds displaying Swedish freshwater habitats, such as the common toad's.



Do you know what eutrophied and acidified waters look like? Learn to read the signs by climbing down into the sewer - but mind your feet and head, you might be in for a surprise!


Wild sea trout leap into the museum from the Baltic Sea

Each year in November - December sea trout leap from the Baltic outside the museum up the fish ladder to spawn indoors. After a couple of weeks the majority leave the museum again via the fish ladder, swimming out into the Baltic to feed before returning the year after.

Robban holds an 11.2 kg sea trout, December 2001. The staff fertilises roe from a couple of inviduals so that visitors are able to follow the life-stages as the fry develop. The offspring are released after their third year, when they are 12 -15 cm.
