Mangroves

The brackish water of the mangrove swamps are home to a variety of fascinating fish. The roots provide shelter and function as a nursery for many sea creatures.

In the mangrove swamps live also the archer fish
that hunts insects by shooting them with its
inbuilt "water pistol".

The mud-skipper is a fish that is as happy on land as in water. How does it manage to breathe? Carrying water in its mouth up on to land, it extracts oxygen through its gills.

Four-eye fish have only two eyes despite their name. Each eye is separeted by membrane which allowsit to see both over and under the surface simultaneously.
